Love golfing? You’ve found your paradise in Naples, where beautiful weather and great golf courses abound. Naples has more than 90 public, semi-private, and private courses with opportunities for golfers at every level of the game.
Here’s are some handy tips for vacationing golfers and golfing fans, including highlights for fall and winter 2013-2014 in the Naples area:
Money-saving deals at 30 Naples-area courses are available through the Ultimate Golf Experience coupon books. You’ll find discounted rounds at Bear’s Paw, Cypress Woods, LaPlaya, Panther Run, Quail West, Stone Bridge, Vanderbilt Country Club, TwinEagles, Windstar on Naples Bay, and more.
Watch the pros — or play like one
Want to play like a pro? You might start with the Tiburon Golf Club, with two courses (the Gold and the Black) designed by Greg Norman; there’s also the adjoining Naples Grande Golf Club. The LPGA’s CME Group TitleHolders event takes place at the Tiburon Nov. 18-24 and in December the Tiburon hosts the Franklin Templeton Shootout, with 24 PGA pros competing for a purse in excess of $2 million.
Know the rules, but watch the alligators
If you’re from out of state, make sure you brush up on the Naples golf rules. Such as:
- Divots. Florida courses have Bermuda grass, which does not handle divot replacement well. While you may be used to carefully replacing grass at home, many Florida courses advise that instead you just fill the divot with sand.
- Alligators. Did your drive end up near an alligator? Don’t try to retrieve it—those critters are fast. Using your good sense won’t cost you a stroke, either. The “Florida Alligator Rule” allows you to take a free drop.
Sometimes a great golf course is just next door
If you stay at our Capri Golf Condo, your lanai affords a panoramic view of one of the nicest public golf courses in Naples, the newly updated Hibiscus Golf Club. The Hibiscus is also the Naples golf course with the best sense of humor, in evidence each August when they host the popular and colorful Ladies Night at the Pretend Golf Association.
