We aren’t just all about the beaches and shopping here at Naples Florida Vacation Homes! Specializing in weekly and nightly reservations, our vacation homes are a perfect oasis for fishing enthusiasts looking to maximize their time on the water!
Steamy September afternoons and typical mid-day rains in Naples tend to govern how successful most Naples vacation activities will be, including fishing. But if you time your day right, it can also be some of the most productive fishing all year!
Air temperatures in September average around 90 degrees and the gulf temperature is at about 85 degrees. Getting out early in the morning produces bites, but by noon it’s so hot the activity in the water slows as fish swim deeper to the cooler waters. After a quick swim in the pool back at your vacation home, typical afternoon rains cool things down a bit and allow you to get back out there and catch dinner.
Snook Season Opens
A big draw for visitors in September is the opening of Snook season. When snook is open in Gulf waters, the bag limit is one fish per person, per day; the slot size limit is 28 to 33 inches; and the season is closed from Dec. 1 through the end of February and May 1 through Aug. 31.
September and October are also great months for schools of redfish, ladyfish, and tarpon. All of them are feeding, and fattening up for their trip further south into the warmer water for our chilly months. The near-shore fishing is good this time of year with Mangrove Snapper and Red Grouper. Cobia and Permit bites are both reasonably consistent as well.
Where to Get Fishing Licenses
You can purchase fishing licenses at:
- Collier County tax collectors office
- Sunshine Ace Hardware
- and select bait and tackle shop locations
You don’t need a permit to fish at the Naples Pier. There is a blanket permit covered by the city that takes care of it. Stick around the pier long enough and you are sure to enjoy the company of the local regulars who love to share their plethora of information about local fishing.
