When the holiday season comes around, Naples is a wonderful place to be. No snow drifts or sub-zero temps to deal with, but you can still find a beautiful soup and artfully crafted salad to warm you up in all the right ways.
Sure diners and delis offer a full menu of delicious comfort foods, burgers, and sammies, but below are a few places you’ll want to check out when searching for a little something healthy to fill your soup and salad fix.
#1: Larry’s Lunchbox Delicatessen
With offerings named after various personas like Beth’s Belly Bustin’ Bacon Burger and JC’s Jackpot, this joint is said to have some of the best sandwiches and burgers in town. But if you aren’t into scarfing down a double cheese with all the fixings, Larry’s offers a popular variety of soups. The matzo ball soup is a standard on the menu, but the soup of the day is known to include potato bacon, gumbo, chicken noodle, and more. The salad list offers Cesar, tossed, Casual Chef, Chicken salad, Tuna salad, and the standard dressings. Patron tip: When in line, figure out what you want before it’s your turn to order. It’s rumored that the counter lady can rival the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, (we’re sure she’s not that bad, but follow protocol for smooth service).
#2: Alpine Restaurant
Specializing in German, Slovak, Czech, Polish, and Hungarian food, this place covers every aspect of comfort food. Each dish is made from scratch with only the freshest ingredients available. When looking for soup and salad, the Alpine has you covered. Served all day long, soups have a special place on the menu and include Slovak Goulash soup, Sauerkraut soup, Chicken soup, Tomato Basil, and Pea Soup. Salads include House, grilled chicken, Cesar, Tuna salad, and Cobb salad with grilled chicken. Specialties, sandwiches, and hand crafted coffees round out a menu made to snuggle up to.
It’s hard to go wrong with a Cuban restaurant like Rumba. Cubanos, pulled pork sandwiches, plantain chips, shredded beef, seafood, and chicken all handmade with the spice of life that Cubans know all too well. But don’t shirk the soup and salad. Their Garbanzos Salteados is a Cuban style garbanzo bean soup blended with chorizo and seasoned in Spanish tomato sauce. The Rumba salad includes sliced chorizo, tomato, cucumber, and hot sauce, while the Churrasco salad features Churrasco Steak is sliced & served with mixed greens, carrots, tomato, cucumber, onion, capers & white American cheese. Other salads include the Chicken Churrasco salad, Chef Salad, House salad, and marinated chicken salad.
